Tetanus Shots
Tetanus Shots and Vaccine Availability.
During times of flooding, people are often concerned about receiving a booster dose of tetanus vaccine, even though flooding is not shown to be a risk for tetanus. The need for tetanus vaccination during flood recovery depends on individual circumstances. Mass tetanus immunicazation clinics are not recommended. A booster dose of Tetanus vaccine should be given every 10 years. People who are cut or injured and have not had received, or are unsure if they have received a tetanus vaccine within the last five years, should receive a booster dose of vaccine. If you have health insurance, check with your company as in most cases insurance will pay for the shot if given at your physician's office.
If you do not have insurance or your insurance will not cover the vaccine, Public Health has tetanus available. Please call our office at 319-332-0860 and set up an appointment for the vaccination. Our office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
