The Buchanan County  Public Health Department is now located at 1413 First Street West in Independence (former office of ISU Extension). Our phone number remains 319-332-0860 and our fax 319-332-0959. Our e-mail address is now publichealth@co.buchanan.ia.us and you will find us at www.buchanan.ia.us . While our new website is "under construction"  we will continue to post information here to protect your health, prevent the spread of disease, and promote your wellness.

Looking for Home Care? Our department is not Medicare certified. Click here to see a map of home care agencies that serve our county. We do provide Homemaking services on a sliding fee basis for those who have a medical need. Call us for more details.

The Buchanan County Public Health Department is here to preserve the health of the public through the detection of issues which concern health such as natural disaster or unsafe practice consequences, protect the public from communicable diseases through surveillance and investigation, and promote the health of all through education, referral to services and health promotion programming. Our goal is to reach the highest level of health the county can reach.
