What is Cardiac Rehab?
Cardiac Rehab is an outpatient service at BCHC, which is performed in the Wellness Center. This program offers an exercise and education program designed specifically for each individual to improve their quality of life following their heart surgery (stent, bypass, valve replacement) as well as heart attack and stable angina.
Cardiac Rehab offers 4 main components to its program. Initially their is a medical evaluation which helps us assess your physical abilities. We determine your risk factors as well as any other heart related problems you may have. The second portion is the physical activity portion, which includes developing a program right for you based on your abilities. We then offer lifestyle education, which includes diet changes, medications, blood pressure control, as well as no smoking. Lastly we offer psychosocial support, including a stress class, which shows you effective ways to cope with your condition and everyday life.
How do I enroll?
First, you need to contact your doctor for a referral. Most all of the area cardiologists and/or family physicians will be happy to send us a referral. Next, we will contact you for an appointment with Deb, our nurse manager of the Cardiac Rehab department for your health assessment. Deb will then set you up to begin!
